- Wollomombi Falls
For anyone heading through New England High Country, Waterfall Way is a must. This winding road meanders through the region’s agricultural land, casually passing by a number of the state’s most breathtaking waterfalls. Wollomombi Falls is one such example, and as one of the highest falls in Australia, it truly is a sight to see.
There are a number of lookout points scattered along the way for riders to stop off at and take in the view, with the immense valley surrounding the Wollomombi Falls as impressive at the falls themselves.
- Petersons Guesthouse, Armidale
Stop by Petersons Guesthouse and Winery and soak up the old world charm of this historic century old homestead. Spend the night in luxury accommodation, enjoy a meal at the exquisite Cellar Door Restaurant, and take a stroll through the picturesque vineyard.
- Saumarez Homestead, Armidale
Visit the beautiful Saumarez Homestead for an insight into rural life of the 1800s. Built between 1888 and 1906, this 30 room Edwardian mansion sits on a ten hectare grazing property, which incorporates gardens, farm buildings and a café.
- Merilba Estate, Kingstown
Merilba Estate is always a good idea. This gorgeous winery offers great food, quality wines and spectacular views, not to mention a history stretching back to the mid 1800s.
- McCrossin’s Mill, Uralla
Located in the heart of the Uralla township, McCrossin’s Mill is a fascinating museum that details the history of the land, stretching from bushrangers to local heroes. The museum boasts two permanent exhibits, with items on display including paintings, fire engines and a number of artefacts related to the infamous bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt.
- Café Graze, Walcha
A stop off at Café Graze in Walcha is an absolute must. Popular with locals and travellers alike, this café serves up top notch coffee and light lunches, all served up in a beautiful setting. Take a seat on their veranda and watch the world go by as you refuel.
- Open Air Sculptures, Walcha
Wander through the streets of Walcha and take in the 41 unique sculptures that make up the town’s Open Air Gallery. Each of these artworks was created by local, national and international artisans, with many created using local timbers. You can pick up a brochure from the Visitor Information Centre that will guide you past each artwork.
- Thunderbolts Way
Named after the infamous bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt, Thunderbolts Way is a picturesque 209km outback road running from Gloucester to Inverell. The road from Walcha to Armidale cuts through yellow fields and farming landscape, and has become a very popular Highway alternative for motorcyclists.
- The Oxley Highway
Hit the open road between Wauchope and Walcha along the Oxley Highway. This stretch of road snakes through a variety of different landscapes, including rainforest and dry Australian country side, and offers rides the chance to take in some truly beautiful view.
