New England High Country is the ideal getaway for a scenic long weekend. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it is well equipped to cater for guests coming by road, rail or air.

BY CAR

Walcha is the southern most town in New England High Country, and is located 418km north of Sydney along the Pacific Highway and Thunderbolts Way. The journey from here to the region's northernmost town, Tenterfield, stretches 252km one way, and makes for a truly enjoyable touring itinerary.

The heart of New England High Country, Armidale, is a six hour drive from Sydney.

If you are coming from Brisbane, Tenterfield is a three hours drive south along the National Highway A15 and the New England Highway.

Numerous flights operate each day between Sydney and Armidale - courtesy of QantasLink and Regional Express Airlines - making it easy to access the capital of the New England region. Armidale Airport is located only 6 minutes from the city centre.

BY RAIL

If you have more time on hand and want to take the scenic route to New England High Country, why not take the train? NSW TrainLink operates a daily service between Sydney and Armidale that takes about eight hours, while buses operate from Armidale to Glen Innes, Inverell, Guyra and Tenterfield.



Armidale Airport

Armidale Regional Airport is located 8km from the town centre, on the New England Highway. Operated and run by the Armidale Dumaresq Council, the airport is the major transport gateway into the New England High Country region. The Armidale - Sydney route is serviced by two airlines, Qantaslink and Regional Express Airlines. Flight schedules allow for a full business day in Sydney which is a distinct advantage for the business traveller. For further information regarding bookings or flight dates and times, be sure to check out the booking schedules on Qantaslink and REX. Interstate travellers to Armidale are required to fly directly to Sydney and continue their journey through to Armidale via a connecting flight.  Facilities and services offered at the airport include: - Full range of hire car services - Cafe for light meals and refreshments (Open 6.00am - 2.00pm Monday to Friday) - Helicopter and executive charter services - Pilot training - Aero club facilities - Freight services Taxis are available from the airport for transport into town.
